Google Blog Converters - Convert Between Different Blog Engines

Posted by   izwan00   in   January 13th 2009

Google has released a new open-source project, named Google Blog Converters, which can be used to convert (export) between different blog engines.

The script is written in Python, so your server must Python enabled in order to use the script. The current version of the script could only run through command-line or Windows batch script, so you must have the proficiency in Python in order to use the script. For the non-programmers, you can host the script at Google App Engine, that able to run Web-Based application written in Python.

Currently, it only supports the conversion between Wordpress, MovableType, LiveJournal and Blogger blogging system. That means bloggers should be able to convert their blog data into another blog system format.

The future version of this script will support the BlogML data format and a capability to synchronize between blog system using API (application programming interface), but not import-export abilities.

Take Better Screen Shots in Windows 7 or Vista

Posted by   izwan00   in   January 11th 2009

If you’re often take a screen shot on your PC, you’re already noticed some inefficiency of Windows built-in screen capture software. Windows 7 and Vista has a lot of improvements over Windows XP by adding a Snipping Tool that can capture a rectangle, a single window, or a free-form shape. But, the built-in tools still unable to capture the mouse pointer, and doesn’t have a timer.

If you plan to take a screen shots for your software documentation – in order to create illustrations to give more understanding for your software users, those limitations could be a problem and you need to do extra job of capturing what is happening on your screen. Without a timer, for example, it is impossible to capture a drop-down menu unless you press the ‘Print Screen’ button on your keyboard, but you need to crop the picture to get only the area you need. But even you get the screen shot you want, the Windows built-in screen capture tools still can’t capture your mouse pointer.

Posted by   izwan00   in   January 8th 2009

The Beta version of Windows 7 will be available for public download and try out on January 9th, 2009, as announced by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer at CES yesterday. This download only available for a “limited time” and it will cap the download after 2.5 millions downloads. The download will expires on August 1st, 2009.

The Beta download will be available in both 32 and 64 bit and only for English, Japanese, German, Hindi and Arabic edition, in form of .iso file (3,230.10 MB for 64-bit and 2,497.48 MB for 32-bit). So users must have DVD writer to burn disk image to a blank disc.

At the same time, Microsoft’s also provided a list of the minimum system specification for people who want to run the beta version on their computer. The beta version only requires a PC or notebook with as low as 1GHz processor clock speed, 1GB of memory, 16GB of hard disk space and 128MB of graphic memory to support for DX9 graphics and aero interface.

However, Microsoft doesn’t specify the exact release date for final version, other than say that official target for the completed version of Windows 7 is early next year.

The beta download will be available at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/default.aspx

Asus is one of the most important players in the netbook world, as they are often to be the first to bring new platforms and features to market. Not only has they claimed to launch the first Intel Atom’s notebook, the Eee PC 900A, they also claim to having the very first commercially available netbook, the Eee PC 701, also the launch of the first 10” netbook, the Eee PC1000. Asus continuously produce more and more mini laptops, portable and performance netbook, one of it is N10Jc.

Got a title “corporate notebook” from Asus, N10Jc seems similar to the company’s Eee 100H 80G XP, added with some better design and greater performance. Asus N10Jc can be categorized as ultraportable notebook, regardless of bearing a price ($650) that is reasonably priced for an ultraportable (but expensive for a netbook).
