HP Pavillion dv5t Entertainment Notebook

Posted by   izwan00   in   September 5th 2008

The HP Pavillion dv5t is component of group of HP consumer notebooks to have an interior chrome treatment. And with the inclusion of the Centrino 2 platform, the HP Pavillion dv5t is among the 1st to get a full performance tune-up.

This wasn’t an extreme makeover, however, by any means. The HP Pavillion dv5t is still slightly overweight at 6.3 pounds. The chrome job is best at hiding fingerprints than a black polish, although under fluorescent light the reflected glare can be a distraction.

Linksys Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N Router (WRT160N) Reviews

Posted by   izwan00   in   September 4th 2008

You’re unlikely to find a draft-n router that costs less then the Linksys Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N Router (WRT160N). As with the Linksys RangePlus Wireless Router (WRT110), the four wired Ethernet ports are 10/100 only, and there’s no USB port for sharing a printer or storage device. But the WRT160N can use Linksys’s relatively new home network management software, and the throughput at 20 feet, 116mbps, is a bit above WRT110’s. Performance falls precipitously with increasing distance, though.

Connecting the router to the internet via DSL or cable caused the install wizard to hang. Once I’d killed the wizard the router ran correctly, but to access the network manager (which, confusingly, has almost the same name as the installer), I had to eject and reinsert the install CD, then select the manager from the menu. Perhaps by the time you read this the installation routine will be fixed.

Computer Storage Technology - Using Living Organism

Posted by   izwan00   in   September 3rd 2008

DNA stores an awful lot of information, so why not computer data? That’s just what researchers at Davidson College and Missouri western State University had in mind when they designed an experiment to coax genetically altered bacteria into behaving like a computer. Their biological computer, composed of E. coli cells, solved a classical mathematical challenge known as the Burnt Pancake Problem: Sort a stack of objects (the “pancakes” in this experiment were DNA fragments) into proper order (golder side up) in the minimum number of flips. In the case of DNA, the “flipping” is actually sorting according to reversals. The more pancakes, the more complex the problem becomes. Still in its infancy, bacterial computing could have far-reaching implications for data storage, parallel computing, and genetic engineering. “The more little computers you have working on a problem, the greater the likehood that one is going to pick the right path that will take you to the right solution,” said Karmella Haynes, an adjunct professor of biology at Davidson, in an interview with MSNBC. Haynes’s team nicknamed the E. coli project E-Hop (continuing the pancake metaphor). With further research, this proof of concept could be put to even greater problem-solving challenges in the future.

Polaroid PoGo - Pocket Photo Printer

Posted by   izwan00   in   September 2nd 2008

Back in the day, Polaroid was the king of on-the-go photo printing. Now the company is poised to make a comeback with the PoGo Instant Mobile Printer, an 8-ounce rechargeable printer that can print via PictBridge or by syncing with Bluetooth devices.

The PoGo produces 2×3 inch borderless photo with peel-off layer covering a sticky back. While the color quality leaves something to be desired, it’s good enough for casual use. In addition, the photos are water and scratch resistant. By using ZINK (Zero Ink) technology, which embeds clear dye crystals underneath a clear polymer overcoat and uses heat to activate color in the crystals.
